Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about tankless water heater maintenance, backflow testing, pricing and booking.
Tankless Water Heater Maintenance
How often should a tankless water heater be flushed?
Once a year for most homes. Homes with hard water or heavy hot water use may benefit from more frequent service.
What happens if I never flush my tankless water heater?
Mineral scale keeps building inside the heat exchanger. Over time that can reduce hot water flow, cause temperature swings and error codes, and shorten the life of the heater.
Does regular maintenance affect my warranty?
Most manufacturers require regular maintenance to keep the warranty valid. Check your owner’s manual for your manufacturer’s specific requirements.
What are service valves, and do I need them?
Service valves are shutoff valves with flush ports on the hot and cold water lines. A flush connects to them, so if your heater doesn’t have them we can install them on one side ($250) or both sides ($350).
How do I protect my tankless water heater in winter?
Insulating exposed pipes and fittings below an outdoor unit adds protection against freezing. Our winter insulation service is $50 and takes about 25 minutes.
Backflow Testing
What is backflow?
Backflow is water flowing in reverse into the clean water supply, usually because of a drop in pressure. It can carry contaminants from irrigation lines or other sources into drinking water. A backflow prevention device stops it.
Do I need a backflow test every year?
Many water providers require an annual test. Check the notice from your water provider for its schedule and deadline.
How long does a backflow test take?
About 25 minutes for a residential test and about 30 minutes for a commercial test.
Do you test commercial backflow devices?
Yes. Commercial backflow prevention testing is $99, and residential testing is $45.
